Consultations

Instructional Consultation

The Hubbard Center offers four kinds of feedback to help faculty improve their teaching: classroom observations, student discussions, videotape recordings, and review of student ratings. In classroom observations, we use a structured instrument to observe presentation style. In student discussions, we use a protocol of small- and large-group discussions with students to obtain information about the course and the instructor. In videotape recordings, we videotape an instructor's class, then analyze the interaction with the instructor. In review of student ratings, we analyze the data, looking for trends and commonalities. The Hubbard Center invites faculty to use this service when they experience difficulties in teaching as well as when they just want a professional check-up.

Faculty Consultation

The Hubbard Center offers consultation to faculty who have concerns about professional or career issues, such as teaching, promotion and tenure, departmental conflict, job satisfaction, career change, troubled students, peer review, and the like.

Departmental Consultation

The Hubbard Center offers consultation services to departments seeking to obtain information, discuss teaching issues, revise curricula, facilitate strategic planning, or resolve conflicts.
