Wine and Chocolate
Friday, November 9, 2007
5:30-7:00 p.m.
Broyhill Inn and Conference Center
Facilitator:
Grant Holder, Chemistry
Cost: $20.00 per person
It is no secret that wine (especially red) provides great potential benefits to health, particularly cardiovascular function. Additionally, recent studies have shown that a reasonable consumption of dark chocolate can be even more effective in controlling blood pressure than some commercial beta-blockers.
At this event, intended purely for enjoyment, we will discuss wine and chocolate pairings, taste some combinations, discuss the relationship between wine characters and those of the chocolate, and why each seems to reinforce the other so well. This is an excellent way to prepare for the holiday “eating” season.
Hosting the event is Dr. Grant Holder, Professor in the Department of Chemistry. Holder received a FIPSE European Union-United States grant from the U.S. Department of Education to create a transatlantic undergraduate program in wine science.
To register for this event, please send a check for $20.00 made payable to Appalachian State University, to Grant Holder in the Department of Chemistry, by October 26, 2007. This event is limited to the first twenty-two people who pay; the $35.00 fee is non-refundable.
