Cultures and Languages Across the Curriculum

This workshop will be an introduction to the program, Cultures and Languages Across the Curriculum (CLAC). CLAC programs are founded on the basic principle that foreign languages should be actively used throughout a university and that their use should be linked to faculty and student disciplinary interests. CLAC can play an important the role in internationalizing the curriculum as well as the campus. Facilitators will share aspects of the national conversation on CLAC, with examples from their experience and other institutions. The most important aspect of the workshop is a discussion with participants about how CLAC might be implemented at Appalachian.

Jesse Lutabingwa is Associate Vice Chancellor for International Education and Development. Renee Scherlen is Associate Professor of Political Science/Criminal Justice and co-chair of the International Education Council. Alexandra Sterling-Hellenbrand is Department Chair and Associate Professor of Foreign Languages and Literatures and serves as co-chair on the Inter-national Education Council subcommittee on Internationalization the Curriculum. Cynthia Wood is Associate Professor of Sustainable Development and Global Studies in Interdisciplinary Studies.
